Information, Education & Communication

Information, education, and communication (IEC) is a multilevel tool for promoting and sustaining change in individuals and communities. IEC is key to the success of the modernization of MSWM. Awareness among community and different stakeholders to meet the demands of the new system for a cleaner environment requires a detailed and thorough understanding at every stage.
trashonomy is regularly organizing the IEC activities to create the awareness among the masses.

Nanhe Khwab: Every child deserves

Informal schooling for the children from the waste picker community.

As waste pickers children do not get the opportunity to go to school for education. Trashonomy believes that without education, their lifestyle and social status can’t be improved. Keeping this in mind, Trashonomy initiated a primary education program for Waste pickers children in Delhi/NCR.

Objectives:

  1. To afford primary education to children through various activities.
  2. To spread awareness regarding proper health care and sanitation.
  3. To develop moral and social responsibility among children and waste pickers.
  4. To provide ample opportunities to ensure that no child becomes a waste picker.
  5. To improve lifestyle and social status of waste-pickers community.

Keeping in mind our end goal, a specific curriculum has been drafted for students

while youths within the community are trained to teach the other children.

Various workshops and training sessions are held, so the children are fully prepared to enroll in mainstream government schools for further education.

Since children of waste pickers are exposed to unhealthy conditions and due to lack of awareness, they are vulnerable to number of infectious diseases. With the vision of clean and healthy India, Trashonomy is executing the noble act of “free medical checkup camp” for people from the rag picker community. The health camps have been organized on a regular basis and the outcome of these continuous health camps has revealed that their health status has improved remarkably.

Efforts to make waste pickers financially inclusive

Efforts to make waste pickers financially inclusive

Waste pickers and other informal waste workers are on the fringes of urban economy. Financial institutions rarely consider them to be credit worthy. Due to the efforts of Trashonomy, financial services particularly credit facilities and savings accounts are being extended to waste pickers and other informal waste workers. This is used for scaling up of the operation of individual waste pickers and retail waste dealers. trashonomy is regularly organizing financial inclusion camp at the waste pickers communities and extended Banking Services to almost 160 waste pickers of that area.
